Hi, I’m Jane
LaBelle, a Birth Doula with a background in Chinese medicine. In 2005, I started Gentle Wind Healing to focus
on natural fertility and family health. When
my first client conceived, she asked me to be her doula, so I took the next
available DONA training. Immediately I knew
I’d found another natural way to support, encourage and empower mothers and
partners as they bring their babies into the world!
My style as
both a doula and a complementary healer is decidedly warm and fuzzy, intuitive,
hands-on, with a nurturing, calm, and comforting style. Because I also have a practice, I accept a max
of two birth doula clients per month, which works well, because I’ve never missed
a birth. :0)
As a
professional, I continue learning, and incorporate everything into my doula and
birth year support.
- 2005—Certified
in Advanced Medical Qigong/Certified Chi Gong instructor. Certified Birth Doula
(DONA)
- 2006—Certified in Acupressure/Asian massage Therapy
- 2008—Studied
Chinese Aromatherapy, now offering custom blends for pregnancy/childhood/wellness.
- 2009—Attended
advanced breastfeeding seminars. Began advanced
Taoist spiritual studies.
- 2010—Studying
auricular (ear) points to use with analgesic oil blends for pain relief in
labor.
Philosophy:
My
philosophy is that deep relaxation is the key to positive transformation--and what’s
a more demanding transformation than labor?
In only a few hours the body changes from the internal/yin state of
pregnancy to the external/yang state of active labor and childbirth! So to prepare mothers, my first step is the
prenatal consultations, where we discuss goals, fears, anxieties, hospital practices,
etc. so that mom has a chance to ask questions, express concerns, and explore
any sources of tension—all towards the goal of creating positive and realistic
expectations for labor and birth.
Second, we add relaxing bodywork, if desired, to reduce stress and relieve
discomforts, and balance mom’s energies. By the time labor finally comes, mom will be
ready to embrace the events of labor with a sense of confidence and trust, allowing
her to let go and follow the flow of inner knowledge that her body already naturally possesses.
During
labor itself, I see my doula role as a facilitator—promoting a positive birth
experience by providing unobtrusive assistance and coaching--so that mom can
get deeply relaxed, and then stay that way, as labor progresses through to
delivery. Throughout labor I will used acupressure,
reflexology, and diffused oils to promote relaxation; and may use medical
qigong Qi emission to increase mother’s energy—promoting productive labor. For many women, acupressure & oils can
bring some pain relief, as well. And of
course, we also do power positions, massage, birth balls, visualizations, etc. to
maximize mom’s comfort.
I offer
doula packages with and without bodywork.
I have had wonderful results with my Labor Prep acupressure sessions,
but there is no obligation to use any of the other birth year services that I
provide.
